What are ChatGPT ads?
Paid ads that appear below ChatGPT's answers. Each shows the advertiser's name, logo, a headline, a description, an image and a link.[1]
Who sees ChatGPT ads?
OpenAI doesn't show ads to users on Plus, Pro or any Business plan, or to accounts identified as under 18.[1]
How much do ChatGPT ads cost?
You set a maximum bid. For click campaigns OpenAI recommends starting at $3–$5 per click, and prices are set in a relevance-weighted, second-price auction.[1] OpenAI says there are no performance benchmarks yet across advertisers or industries.[2]
What is the minimum budget for ChatGPT ads?
$25 a day for an account billed in US dollars. It varies by billing currency.[3][4] More on budgets and billing.
Do I pay per sale?
No. You pay per valid click or per 1,000 impressions, even on conversion-optimized campaigns.[3]
Is advertising on ChatGPT worth it for a small business?

Can I run ChatGPT ads from Shopify?
Yes. OpenAI's ChatGPT Ads app for Shopify syncs your catalog and connects the OpenAI Pixel for Shopify. It's available to Shopify customers in the US.[5] Our Shopify guide.
Can I target my state or city?
Most campaigns can target states, cities, markets and postal codes where available. New campaigns built from a product feed are limited to whole countries.[3]
Can I advertise outside my home country?
Not always at first. Some new self-serve accounts can only advertise in their home country until identity verification is approved and they reach a required amount of spend there.[3]
Which countries can use self-serve ChatGPT ads?
The business that advertises and gets billed must be based in a country OpenAI lists as available. The US, Canada, the UK and Australia are among them.[6]
Who can run ChatGPT ads for me?
Anyone you invite into your own ad account, under Settings → Users, as Admin, Member or Viewer.[7] Your account and card stay yours.
Can I set a hard cap on spend?
Use a campaign-total budget. OpenAI calls it the stricter control for total spend.[3] Self-serve card-billed accounts can't set an account-wide daily limit.[8]
How do I track sales from ChatGPT ads?
Use the OpenAI Pixel, the Conversions API, or both.[9] UTM parameters on your links also carry through on ad clicks.[1]
How fast does reporting update?
Impressions, clicks and click-through rate refresh about every 15 minutes. Spend can lag 7–8 hours.[1]
Can I get a refund if the ads don't sell?
Generally no. Valid delivered spend usually isn't refundable, and fewer sales than expected doesn't change that on its own.[8]
